Success Can Be Found Wherever You Look – Even in a Restroom

“What are you going to do?”

I remember pulling up to my daughters’ dance studio, just a few days after it reopened following the first “shut down” of 2020. Before I could even turn off the engine, my friend ran over to my car and asked, “What are you going to do?”

Bewildered, I simply stared at her, wondering what I’d missed. The girls had been at the dance studio for only a few hours. Having spent way too much money the day before by going shopping to keep myself busy while they danced, I had attempted to set up a mini-office – laptop, phone, charger, etc. – at a local “patio-only-dining” restaurant in the Southern California summer heat hoping to get some work done.

After months of working from home, one child taking 30+ hours of dance upstairs in the loft and the other taking her 30+ hours per week of class downstairs in the same room I was working in, we were FINALLY back at the studio. Due to the new regulations on crowd size, parents could no longer enter the building; my new challenge was finding somewhere I could continue to work – seeing clients virtually, creating online content, and building my company – while they danced 5-7 hours per day… five days per week… at a studio an hour away from home.

I’d come up with the perfect plan. While things eased back to “normal,” I would go back to working at the local outdoor food court. It had food… coffee… power… Wi-Fi… and restrooms, a necessary part of the plan. A little hot in the summer sun, but it would work. And it was better than 4 hours of commuting back and forth to drop off and pick up the girls each day.
