Never Too Late

by Gary Goodspeed

Hypnosis has fascinated me for as long as I can remember. From the moment I watched Bela Lugosi use his “preternatural” eyes acquire his next victim, I wanted to know more! What was this power he had, and can anyone do that? Could I do that? Even as a kid, I knew I was watching a fictional character in a movie, but still, there was a part of me that wanted to believe that this ability was real. Every time a vampire movie aired on Friday night’s Shock Theater, hosted by Ghoulardi, I sat glued to our black-and-white TV, wholly captivated.

The Village of Lakemore, OH didn’t have a town library, so my only resource was the small library in my elementary school. I can assure you back in the late 50s and early 60s the subject of hypnosis was not a common theme on those bookshelves.  For the longest time, my only contact with hypnosis continued to be through movies, TV and occasionally comic books.
