Who is Rylee Meek? How did I become the Social Dynamic Selling guy? As you know, Rylee is an uncommon name. I’ve had an uncommon journey.
It began in Miller, South Dakota. Unless you’re from there, you’ve probably never heard of it. It’s really small. I couldn’t wait to get out of there.
As a child, whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I never told them a specific profession. My answer was always the same. “I want to be rich”.
I don’t know why that was my focus. I certainly didn’t grow up rich. But I remember when I was young, asking my mom why an aunt was always so crabby, and she said, “Because she has to work a lot to be able to pay her bills.” Somehow, at age five, that got instilled in my subconscious. I thought, “I don’t want to do that.” I just knew I wanted to be in control instead of letting life happen to me.
Case in point, when I was 15. I wanted to buy a car. But the only job I could get was making pizzas in the deli at the gas station. For minimum wage, which at the time was $5.15 an hour. Toward the end of my eight-hour shift, I did the math in my head and thought, “I’m not letting them put that value on my time.” I was mad that someone could do that, but angrier at myself that I allowed it. So I quit. My first day was my last day.
