The “Power Points” of Business Success

Some day! What an interesting concept. Think of all the things that were supposed to happen by now… that “someday” that you convinced yourself was just around the corner. Think of all the energy you’ve expended wondering why that someday never seems to get any closer to becoming today. Think of all the times you may have wished you could live your life on your own terms, maybe running your own business, working toward your own goals instead of supporting someone else’s. Maybe you are one of these people, maybe not.

If you have a desire to start and run a business of your own it essential to know where to start and what actions to take that will move you toward success. I call them the “power points” of success. Let me offer you four important ones.

Power Point # 1 Make a Decision to be Successful.

Most everyone is obsessed with success, with having more money, things, a better future for themselves and their family. Everyone is intrigued by the top companies, success stories, rags to riches, who’s the coolest, the hottest, the richest and the boldest. Yet, why is it that more people don’t achieve great things instead of just dreaming about it or standing on the sideline observing other’s successes and justifying why they could never have it?

It’s because most have never defined what success would be for them and they’ve never made a firm decision to have it! That’s the only reason! Have you defined what success means to you, or are you letting someone else’s dictate your success? How you answer that question can change your life!

So your very first step is to decide what it is you really want in your life. Do you want to be rich? Do you want to retire wealthy?

Power Point #2 Learn to Be Bold

You don’t have to settle for things as they are now or the “status quo.” Your life can change drastically if you are willing to face a little discomfort.

You haven’t been reaching your full potential up to this point. In fact, in my opinion, you haven’t even come close! No matter how you define achievement, you have barely scratched the surface! But maybe, just maybe you’re ready for that giant leap forward.

To change requires being bold! Being bold requires doing something in a different way than in the past. And the risk of doing something different can bring up your deepest fears. “What if my business doesn’t work?” “What if I lose my money?” “What if the opportunity I’m becoming involved in isn’t even real?” “What if I can’t do it?” “What will others think of me being in this type of business?” “I’ve failed before, what if I do it again?”

Look at it this way. What if you fail? So what! The greatest failure is in not trying! The greatest failure is staying where you are and letting fear run your life! Might as well put a blanket over your head and let someone bring you three meals a day!

Anything…anything you want is just three inches in front of your nose! It lies just three inches outside the person you are now!

Becoming successful in your own business will demand a willingness to make mistakes and to feel uncomfortable at times.

You cannot hide is a “safe zone” of behavior where you have beaten or avoided the odds of failing. An unwillingness to encounter defeat, to run into problems or to face discomfort will not move you forward. In fact that is the one thing, beyond all others, that will keep you stuck where you are right now. Unless you allow yourself to make mistakes, to fail, you will never have the opportunity to test the limits of what you truly are capable of accomplishing.

Power Point #3 Set Your Priorities.

It’s easy to get caught up in doing things that are of little importance that make you “feel” busy but have very little bearing on accomplishing your goal.

Getting the most out of your time means making intelligent, conscious choices…deciding what can be done and what can wait. It’s having the self-discipline to put everything on hold except what needs to get done now.

Prioritizing simply means “to choose.” First choose what you want to accomplish, your mission and your core values. Second choose your Goals. How you will get where you want to go. And third choose your strategies, or tasks, that will move you toward your goals. Then take action! And as a result, you will automatically become more productive…completing more “high yield” tasks, sooner!

Power Point #4 Choose a Vehicle

There are tremendous shifts taking place in this country today that make it essential for low, average, and even high income earners, to look at new ways by which they can supplement their earnings in order to feel secure. Few people succeed with the age-old model of, “go to school, get a job and retire in thirty or forty years.”

And because of this, millions are succeeding in small businesses at home as a means of securing their financial future.

Solopreneurs are a thriving mixture from every background, from every part of
the world and from every economic level. Some are experienced business people, some are not. Some are shy, some are aggressive. Some seek financial freedom, while others simply want a part-time business to supplement their income. But all are alike in one way: They all have dreams that can become reality…and that’s what draws them to become an entrepreneur.
